Background

Founded in 2000, the concept for Realfunspots began with co-founder Kurt Pelton, a marketing veteran with more than 30 years experience in the travel and tourism industry. Pelton was looking for solutions to two problems: the need for attractions to find a cost-effective means to market themselves to larger audiences and the need for travelers to have a one-stop place to go to plan their leisure time activities.

"The on-going battle for travel and tourism," Pelton said, "is the need of properties to reach audiences outside their traditional market area to increase the number of visitors to their location. Traditional advertising means -- such as radio, television, magazines and newspapers -- often are beyond the financial means of attractions. Our search engine offers free listings to tourism properties, and free links to allow a property to show potential visitors everything going on in their vicinity."

For instance, an attraction can let people know about nearby restaurants and hotels. Or a hotel can show potential guests all the nearby attractions.

Then, there is the traveler. "People know generally where they’re going, and what they’d like to do when they get there. Our search engine allows them to look for all the things to do that interest them – plus places to eat and stay – in the area they’re planning to visit.
